Fabienne Troncy, tell me a little about yourself. Where are you from? What’s your educational background? What are your general professional and non-professional interests?
French Designer and recently based in Stockholm, I worked many many years in the French Fashion Industry as a Designer & Head of design after 4 years in a Haute Couture Fashion School Academy in France (Lyon) 20 + years ago. Today, I have my own consulting company as Fashion Expert “Fabienne Troncy Consulting” and launched last summer my first capsule collection called “ma meilleure amie” – eco-friendly brand and exclusively from France.
What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion is a concept of life, a way of appreciating or not the world in which we live. Also, it’s above all cutural and social.
How would Fabienne Troncy defines city fashion?
As a French Designer, I could say 2 particular things that “Mademoiselle Chanel” said: “La simplicite est la cle de l’elegance” – “Pour etre irremplacable, il faut etre differente”.
When did you realize you wanted to become a fashion designer?
My mother realized for me 😊, and I of course … when I was 14. So, I started to learn the the basic rules of the sewing in after school activities before at 17 starting the High Fashion School Academy in France. It was absolutly the one of my best memories as student life.
What was the first article of clothing you ever designed?
Oh, my God! Great Great memory!!! I was 19, a friend of mine came back to Asia with silk taffeta fabric, green plain (I remember exactly) and she wanted a long straight jacket with round neckline with beautiful jewelry buttons. It was amazing and stressing challenge but I made it and I succeed 😅.
How does designing jewelry differ from designing clothes?
Jewelry is an essential element for an outfit. It defines exactly the mood and the style that the woman wants to give to her clothes. The jewelry also aims to sublimate women.
How long does it usually take you to construct a piece?
Generally the pieces are all coordinated so that it depends the kind of cloth and design … Some hours maybe.
Who is one of your favorite local models to work with?
I have lucky to live with my niece, tall and beautiful young lady, and absolutly a real referenc and ambassador for all my designs.
Describe the general process you go through to design and realize a piece of clothing.
I’m a fabric and color lover. Whole this, inspire me enormously. So I create from all these elements. Then I collaborate with my patternmaker and we discuss around the simpliest and cheapest way for the seamtress or factories. But, keep also, a focus on the high quality.
What are some of your accomplishments as a designer?
The success as a Designer in the French industry since 25 years and the lauching of my own incluse and eco-friendly, brand “ma meilleure amie”.
Who are some of your favorite designers?
Unquestionably, Gabrielle Chanel who was our pioneer for the emancipation of the modern woman in the Roaring Twenties. Nowdays timeless and very trendy grow by Karl Lagerfield, and today by Virginie Viard. In the different style and fashion mood, Jeau-Paul Gautier, with an absolutly amazing creativity, a Fashion Genius. Also, I’m an absolut fan of Dolce & Gababana, their last collection gives us, designers, full of good vibes during this pandemic time, and soooo inspiring …
Where can readers buy your clothes/ jewelry?
In the european retails store, when I worked for different companies in France. Today, with my own brand, through my website and very soon in the concept store in Fance & Sweden.
How long have you worked as a designer?
I started my carreer directly as Designer in Ready to Wear for women in particular in curvy woman, 25 + years ago.
How do Fabienne Troncy selects models?
I love to be surrounded by multicultural people, inclusive, caring and sensitive to basic values with an eco-friendly spirit … not matter where they come from, and the age. It’s very important to get a dream team and also, so inspiring for my creativity.
What are some of your favorite clothing stores/ catalogs/ websites?
I‘ve always had a regard for small neighborhood stores and second-hand. I like to discuss with the sellers. I still subscribe to fashion magazines paper. Indeed, I still like to turn the pages of magazines; it reminds me of my student years working and creating my fashion books, even if I often, today, check on the internet.
