Which are the reasons for opening this IMIC in Bucharest and not other countries around, which might be better developed and with better perspectives?
To expand its reach in young and emerging markets has always been Istituto Marangoni’s mission: thanks to this new opening here in Bucharest, Istituto Marangoni it’s now closer to Eastern Europe.
This represents a great opportunity to join a market that is growing constantly both in terms of prospects and in general in terms of gaining a respectable position within the economical and cultural European scenario. Indeed, in 2017, Romania has been the fastest growing economy of the EU; private consumption and investments are up and there is an overall feeling of positive thinking for the future of the country.
Surely opening this center in Bucharest came after doing a market study.
Did Dario Cattaneo discovered a special potential here, did you take into consideration the creativity of some Romanian designers? Did creativity matter for this choice?
Of course, it matters. The purpose of the new Istituto Marangoni Information Centre in Bucharest is to guide and discover new young Romanian talents. We experienced the output of Istituto Marangoni’s unique teaching method during the inauguration party in Bucharest. The exhibition of the collections created by talented Romanian alumni was a wonderful showcase of great creativity.
What Dario Cattaneo hopes to achieve here, specifically? What are your expectations?
The new Istituto Marangoni Information Center aims at guiding and advising the young Romanian talents in making the right choice for their studies, for their personal and professional growth and, consequently, for their career. Here the education market is extremely dynamic, with some 100.000 new students every year.
A significant proportion of those choose to pursue studies abroad, between 10.000 and 15.000 each year.
Which are the biggest names in fashion you are proud in?
The quality of Istituto Marangoni’s teaching method launched more than 45.000 professionals in the fashion and design system, such as Domenico Dolce from Dolce & Gabbana, Franco Moschino, Alessandro Sartori, Creative Director Of Zegna, Julie De Libran, Creative Director Sonia Rykiel, Rocco Iannone, who recently moved from Emporio Armani to Pal Zileri, Andrea Pompilio and Paula Cademartori, who’s collections of accessories is now part of “Only the Brave” group owned by Renzo Rosso, Alessandro De Benedetti, Creative Director at Mila Schon, just to name a few.
Where do you plan to open another IMIC? What areas do you target for the future?
Istituto Marangoni is always looking at new emerging markets: today the group can count on an incredible international network in terms of schools and agencies, a network that allows us to identify opportunities to work with local talented professionals.
A unique international network of 10 schools that bear the same DNA and that are prestigiously located in the most vibrant capitals of fashion, luxury and design: Milano, Firenze, Paris, London, Mumbai, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Miami.
For sure the Far East and the Americas are extremely interesting in terms of potential target and are countries to look at for future trends.
Some advice from Dario Cattaneo for youngsters wishing to build a career in this industry, and who might think about the idea of studying at IM?
In such a competitive market, passion and determination in achieving results are essential. Istituto Marangoni’s mission is a forward-looking investment, carried out by imparting young talents a unique educational know-how while introducing them to the fashion world with the most up-to-date educational programs so to become tomorrow’s key players in the business.
In Istituto Marangoni, students experience a learning method that directly mirrors the actual industry’s needs, like the actual trends related to innovation and social responsibility. Thanks to the many industry projects implemented in each school, students learn how to work on a brief given by a fashion company, how to meet deadlines, how to create luxury products starting from sketches and raw materials.
