Natalya Roos, tell me a little about yourself! Where are you from? What’s your educational background? What are your general professional and non-professional interests?
My name is Natalya Roos. I was born in Russia in a small city. My city Kirov has been since ancient times been known as local center of crafts and trade. I graduated Moscow Open Social University (MOSU), in my education I am a psychologist. Before I was interested in many things: planting flowers, cooking, knitting, braid different hairstyles. Last 10 – 12 years I have been knitting.
What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion to me is – confidence, originality, comfort, availability …
How would Natalya Roos define her city’s fashion?
At this moment I live in Stockholm and I love the city´s style, especially around teenagers. They are like revolutionaries boldly make changes in everyday life. They are not afraid to not being accepted by the society.
When did you realize you wanted to become a fashion designer?
I don’t even know, when this thought came to my head. Maybe when I grabbed the knitting hook.
What was the first article of clothing you ever designed?
My first work was napkins on the table, it took place in 1985.
How does designing jewelry differ from designing clothes?
For me I don’t see any difference of fashion in clothes, shoes, jewelry or accessories. It’s a big and hardworking process, which needs a lot of attention, time and expenses. Everybody work on their design with full dedication.
How long does it usually take you to construct a piece for Natalya Roos?
I can´t really say how long time it takes for me to get done with a piece of work. It´s always different some work takes 1-2 days and are stuck in my head for 3-4 days.
Who is one of your favorite local models to work with?
I don’t have any favorite models, yet.
Describe the general process you go through to design and realize a piece of clothing.
I think that I´m getting stuck for to long on my working process. At first I watch the new lines of different fashion houses for me to be inspired. The second part is that I just go out for a walk in the city. I watch at people going by, windows of boutiques and takes photos of that. After my inspiration I go home take paper and pencils, then my drawing process starts. When my drawing part is done I pick the perfect material take my hooks and start with my new bag or other creation of mine. Of course everything can´t go as I wish so sometimes I have to make some changes or redo stuff in the making.
What are some of your accomplishments as a designer?
I haven’t yet had any big accomplishments as a designer, I hope it will happen soon. But I know that many people like what I create and very often tells me good words and gives me compliments that warms my heart.
Who are some of your favorite designers?
I have some favorite designers I can look at for a long time, but that doesn´t meant that I will run to the boutique after the new collection. This is my favorite designers Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Off White, Elie Saab and MM6 Maison Margiela.

How long have you worked as a designer?
In 2004 when I did an ultrasound, they told me that I will have a girl. I was so filled with happiness. My fantasy started to flow in my head. I started to imagine clothes I wanted to make her. I knitted everything: shorts, dresses, coats, skirts, shoes and head wear. Other moms started to ask me if I could take orders. When we moved to Sweden, I changed my type of knitting to interior: pillows, carpets for bathrooms, baskets for organizations and other decor for home. Right now I like to knit different bags for women.
How do you select your models?

It all depends on the mood. I kind of want a firework of colors, sometimes just be calm. Even the season can pay an important role for choosing models.

When me and my daughter go out for shopping , it’s a must for us to go in to COS, The Other Stories … and so ever on the list
