Lucaz Enigma, tell me a little about yourself. Where are you from? What’s your educational background? What are your general professional and non-professional interests?
My name is Lucaz Enigma. I’m 45 years old and adopted from Colombia. All my life I’ve been wearing creative skills. Im start already when I was a little boy. In my daddys carpenter’s shop. From that day on I have been doing a lot of creative things. I have always and will always be creative. My schooled creative background first started in high school. I want to be a hairdresser, but it was too expensive at the time. So I decided to go for a florist education. So I did this between 1995-1998 at De La Gardie Gymnasiet in Lidkoping in Vastergotland. My interests in art, painting. doing creative things has always been there. Like a common thread throughout my life. I’m glad it’s still with me today. Without my creative side, I would not be who I am today.
What does fashion mean to Lucaz Enigma?
For me, fashion is a way of expressing oneself as a person and an individual. To be able to make your own mark in the fashion world as a personal DNA. It is important. To create, to feel unique in their creative process
How would you define your city’s fashion?
I live in Stockholm. Some people live here. Some are good at expressing their own personal imprint on what they are wearing. But our Swedish fashion is quite boring. It does not happen so much when the demand is not for unique garments but more that you want to wear expensive brands and be like everyone else.
When did you realize you wanted to become a fashion designer?
When we were little, our dad always had ideas that we could dress up when we played. He sewed a lot of garments which we then dressed in. There was an incredible interest on my part to be someone else in a garment. For a while. Examples: Wizard, doctor, some animal and more. Dad was good at sewing. So we got good suits. This is where the first interest in, among other things, fashion was born.
What was the first article of clothing you ever designed?
I preferred needlework in school. And this is where the real designer was born in me. Then we had to create everything from clothes to learn to sew. My first real garment was a shirt. I was so proud of it. Then I sewed it from scratch and then worked with batik.
How does designing jewelry differ from designing clothes?
OH! Hard question! I would probably say that the choice of material and educational background separate the two. Being able to create clothes and express their sense of form and fabric material is one thing. But creating jewelry requires even more knowledge about other types of ex metals. Working as a jewelry designer requires different skills than a fashion designer.
How long does it usually take for Lucaz Enigma to construct a piece?
From the time my idea hatched to the finished result. Can it take different lengths of time? Depends on what I am going to create or how advanced it is. But everything from a few days to over 1 month.
Who is one of your favorite local models to work with?
Working with models requires humility and respect. For models doing a good job in a stressful environment. Have worked with so many people. But a girl stands out from the crowd. She is incredibly professional and always willing to set up what I create or do. She can also walk a runway perfectly no matter what she is wearing. Her name is Sue.
Describe the general process you go through to design and realize a piece of clothing.
The process is different depending on what I am going to create. Whether it’s clothes or headpice. When it comes to clothes, the idea is always in my head that I may have taken inspiration from something I have seen or done. Like to put my own creative DNA into my things I create. To want to create a wow experience as I do.
What are some of your accomplishments as a designer?
The word achievement is big to me. Then I am more than just a designer. Then I create my works. SO I develop designs on the hair, makeup and clothes when I work with an overall impression. This word is a must for me. Everything has to be connected, whether it’s for a photo shoot or on a catwalk.
Who are some of Lucaz Enigma`s favorite designers?
There are many good designers in the world. But some that caught my interest are Manfred Thierry Mugler and Alexander McQueen. Both with incredibly creative brains and who thought of overall print not just the clothes.
Where can readers buy your clothes/ jewelry?
I have never sold my manufactured garments only on loan. Because I’m more of a creator than a designer. Creates clothing with a limited edition. But if you want to order something that is made from me. That’s how we solve it. But I can not buy my things in the store. But in the future, a clothing brand will be created and then you will be able to buy my collections.
